On May 19, 2017, a forum on stem cell and regenerative medicine, entitled “Chinese Scientists and Cell Press,” jointly sponsored by China Science Daily and Cell Press, was organized by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College. The event, which was held at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), was supported in part by BoyaLife Group. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of PUMC.

The forum, which was among the highlights of the activities marking PUMC’s 100th anniversary, attracted more than 300 experts, scholars, doctors and young research fellows in the field of regenerative medicine from around the nation to discuss scientific research and recent advancements.

Qi Zhou, president of the forum, academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice director of the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, noted that the study of regenerative medicine has become the most promising field in the natural sciences this century. Improvements in stem cell technology will continue to bring groundbreaking advancements in biomedicine and the treatment of serious diseases.

As pointed out by Xiaohong Yang, head of the China division of Cell Press, standing associate editor of Cancer Cell and publisher of Molecular Biology, great advancements have been made in the stem cell field since the first bone marrow transplant. As the most exciting and promising field in medicine, stem cell and regenerative medicine technology is broadly seen as a key means to address the challenges of serious disease.

During the forum, many experts engaged in an in-depth dialogue, including Tao Cheng (current vice president of the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and director of Center for Stem Cell Medicine of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences;, Hongkui Deng (professor of the School of Life Sciences at Peking University and a Yangtze Distinguished Professor; Xiaohua Shen (professor of the Tsinghua University School of Medicine) and; Wei Li (research fellow at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences).

The Academic Exchange

The “Chinese Scientists and Cell Press” series of activities include an annual paper, organization appraisal, annual special issue and academic forum. Although in just its fourth year, it has quickly become one of the most important international gatherings  on the topic of domestic life sciences due to its high regard and widespread influence. BoyaLife will continue to work with such organizations as China Science Daily and Cell Press to promote China’s scientific research and to advance stem cell scientific achievements.
